The Women’s Leadership Council combines the financial power and the collective talents of philanthropic women to address an unmet need in the community.
Together, the WLC is working on an initiative that will provide educational opportunities for women in central Ohio—opportunities that increase their ability to provide for themselves and their families.
There is a particular need for the WLC to reach out to other women, who often bear a disproportionate share of the problems in our community.
- More than half of the 120,000 individuals living in poverty in central Ohio are women.
- Many lack a high school diploma and earn only $323 a week.
- Many are single parents who stretch that small paycheck to cover rent, food and care for an entire family.
These women need a group of community-minded women who will focus on their needs and provide the economic opportunities and support it takes to build successful lives.
There are other women’s organizations, to be sure, but none quite like the Women’s Leadership Council.
This volunteer-driven group is an organization of its own design. It creates its own initiatives. It sets its own goals. It seeks its own answers and implements its own strategies. In this way, the Women’s Leadership Council is a true catalyst for the much-needed change in the lives of so many women in central Ohio.
In addition, the WLC has access to and benefit from the agencies and best practices of United Way of Central Ohio.
