Many people pray for good health and good fortune. Barbara J. Packer prays for cereal. When the Lutheran Social Services food pantry she manages ran out of cereal last year, she got on her knees and asked God for the breakfast food popular with kids at Franklin County's largest food pantry. Community Care Day is Central Ohio's largest one-day volunteer outreach event. This year's Community Care Day will highlight sites that represent United Way of Central Ohio's four impact areas considered to be the building blocks for a good life, EDUCATION, INCOME, HEALTH and HOME. As a result of Community Care Day, agencies, schools, churches and neighborhoods save thousands of dollars in manpower and project costs and complete plans that would sometimes take months to complete, in just one day. Organizations like Lutheran Social Services are then able to channel their dollars and volunteer support directly into programs and services for the community.
