I'm Mary Ann, from Clintonville. About a year ago I was accepted into the Pride Leadership (PL) program, United Way of Central Ohio's board leadership development program for people in the LGBT community. Not only was it an eye-opening experience, but it helped me to clarify expectations for board service. I learned more about the type and size of the agency I wanted to serve, and I was able to extend my professional network. I am now on the board of the New Directions Career Center.

I think Pride Leadership provides an opportunity for us to come together as a united group and then go out into the community and make a difference. One cause that is near and dear to me is achieving financial stability for all women. Many of our country's issues can be addressed through empowering women and eliminating poverty. I believe we can change minds, policies and services through working on a board. That's how I LIVE UNITED.
