The event was a tremendous success, with 230 people attending, which far exceeded last year's attendance of 125. More than 40 neighborhood groups were represented. The goal of the conference was to promote productive communication and collaboration between neighborhood groups, community partners and local government. Community leaders gathered and discussed ideas that have been proven to make a difference. The guest speaker this year was SCLC Rosa Parks award winner, Reverend Damon Lynch. He has conducted workshops and seminars nationally and internationally on the Asset-Based Community Development approach to problem solving and development. The 16 workshops offered covered a wide range of topics including: community safety, educational gardening programs for children, youth leadership programs against bullying, and faith-based leadership. There was also great participation from local elected leaders including Mayor Michael Coleman, County Treasurer Edward Leonard, Columbus City Council Members Herschel Craig, Eileen Paley, who was a workshop presenter, Zac Klein, A. It is our continued goal to provide outreach to our LGBT youth as they struggle and are challenged, not only by the typical hurdles of being a teenager, but the added weight of either being identified or classified as LGBT. We send them the message that It Gets Better and that there is a community wherever they are that supports them. We champion the work of groups like Kaleidoscope Youth Center in these efforts. In 2008, Traci (TJ) Johnson was Elected Committee Woman of Ward 75 in Hilliard, Ohio. In the community she plays a pivotal role in organizing neighborhood associations and promoting public safety in her community. Her passion for people and volunteerism has become a life's mission. Agencies that assist the Blind, Homeless, Seniors, Recovering Alcoholics and Children encompass her 20 years of volunteerism.

Most recently Traci (TJ) Johnson is a member of the American Red Cross, Disaster Action Team. The Disaster Action Team are called to house fires. Many people don't realize that when the local fire department responds to a house fire, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus also responds to the call. The Disaster Action Team volunteers are on call 24-hours a day, seven days a week, often leaving behind family and friends to help meet the emergency needs of those affected during the fire, providing shelter, food, clothing and medications.

Walter Workman says union members were glad to come together to help families during these difficult times: Hunger is hard. What began in 1982 as an effort to sustain families has grown into an annual effort that involves more than 200 labor volunteers. We do what has to be done for families—union and nonunion—who are in need.

AEP Ohio is generously donating $600,000 to United Way of Central Ohio to help people who are struggling to meet their basic needs like housing and access to critical health care. She is a diabetic who has lost a leg and an eye. She recently had heart bypass surgery and has to regularly have dialysis. This song is her testimony "Come on in the Room" the lyrics include "There is healing in the room, Jesus is my doctor and He writes down all of my prescriptions in the Prayer Room" This song has particularly been sustaining to her and she has been a regular attendee of Open Mic throughout her many medical struggles because music is so sustaining and the community is so supportive. 'The All People Band' provides music with a positive message and opportunities to learn and make music, especially to those who are marginalized. 'Harmony on the Southside' programs highlight positive community efforts, demonstrate unity in diversity, and nurture self-esteem, thereby creating a more peaceful and positive community.
