January 11, 2012 - National Youth Advocate Program

yapNational Youth Advocate Program provides services for youth and families involved in the child welfare, juvenile justice and mental health systems. Our mission is to be an energetic instrument of compassion and change in the lives of children, youth and families and the systems, structures and practices that affect them.

Volunteer Opportunity

The Parent Advocate Connections (PAC) Program provides mentoring services to parents involved with the Child Welfare system.

Parent Advocates provide guidance and support, possibly during crisis situations, assist with day-to-day activities such as escorting parents to appointments, connecting parents with community resources, and helping parents improve parenting and life skills. Volunteers will work to ensure a stable environment at home with the goal of strengthening parents' abilities, preventing children from having to live in foster care or other alternative placement, and helping families live productively and successfully in the community. Mentors will receive training, and monthly reimbursement for related expenses is available.
