Although The Salvation Army is known as a place to turn for basic needs in dire situations, they also strive to help families escape the grip of poverty for good. Several programs are designed to give children and adults the help they need to be successful and create a secure life, including tutoring programs for children at Salvation Army Learning Centers.
Volunteer Opportunity
The Salvation Army Learning Center operates four After-School Learning Centers in Columbus, providing tutoring and mentoring to students from Columbus City Schools in grades 1-8. They are currently recruiting volunteers to tutor students in math and reading at the Learning Centers one day a week for two hours after school. Because the program strives to provide consistent and stable role models, volunteers are required to commit to this opportunity once a week for a minimum of 10 weeks. Each Learning Center can accommodate several tutors per day.
