Volunteer Opportunity: Career Center for Youth Speaker

The Career Center for Youth program provides career exploration and instruction in life and self-sufficiency skills to low-income, middle school age youth in Franklin County (primarily 6th-7th grade students attending Columbus and Southwestern City Schools). The program welcomes volunteer career guest speakers and/or career based field trip opportunities. Guest speakers present information about a specific career or career area and, whenever possible, include an interactive or hands-on activity with the presentation. Presentations can last from 30 to 60 minutes. Field trips to local schools, businesses, and institutions focusing on one or more career areas and provided at no cost to the program are welcomed and typically last from 40 to 60 minutes. Career Center for Youth groups range in size from 8 to 38 students and are facilitated by two staff instructors. The program is conducted at seven school sites each week. It is not expected that a guest speaker or field trip host present to all seven school sites. It is appreciated if volunteers can serve as many school sites as their schedules can reasonably accommodate.
