Healthy Choices for Children Passes
UWCO extends a sincere thank you to our advocates who worked with us tirelessly to ensure passage of Healthy Choices for Healthy Children.
The Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation offers school based solutions to the problem of childhood obesity, such as nutritional standards for food and beverages offered in the schools, increased physical activity in the school day, and periodic Body Mass Index screenings. The bill as passed allows districts to opt-in to a physical activity pilot program, and also includes a waiver to opt out of the BMI screenings due to financial hardship. HB 373/SB 210 passed the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate with bipartisan support on June 3, 2010, and is awaiting Governor Strickland’s signature.
