Franklinton restaurants and community organizations will team up to raise money for the United Way of Central Ohio this holiday season.

franklinton-weekTommy’s Diner, The Florentine, Phillip’s Coney Island and Milo’s Deli will feature specials throughout the last week of December, with a portion of a daily special benefitting the 2010 United Way fundraising campaign.

Beginning on Monday, December 27, 2010, a different restaurant will offer a special menu item with a portion of the proceeds supporting the United Way:

  • Monday, December 27, 2010 – Tommy’s Diner (914 W Broad) will feature the “Franklinton Burger”
  • Tuesday, December 28, 2010 – The Florentine (907 W Broad) will feature “All You Can Eat Spaghetti”
  • Wednesday, December, 29, 2010 – Phillip’s Coney Island (450 W Broad) will feature “Wiener Wednesday”
  • Thursday, December 30, 2010 – Milo’s Deli (980 W Broad) will feature “Milo’s Reuben”

Louis Pappas, owner of Milo’s Deli, is excited to participate in this inaugural event.

“We hope to get new visitors checking out the great restaurant scene in Franklinton,” Pappas said. “And it’s great to support a great charity like the United Way at the same time.”

The United Way of Central Ohio invests heavily in the Franklinton neighborhood, supporting nonprofit organizations like the Franklinton Development Association, an affordable-housing community development corporation (FDA) and the Franklinton Board of Trade (FBOT), the neighborhood’s chamber of commerce.

“The United Way of Central Ohio has been a powerful partner in the Franklinton neighborhood for several years,” said Jim Sweeney, FDA Executive Director. “They have financially supported the “Go West” and “Urban Scrawl” festivals and they are assisting the FDA with the creation of a Special Improvement District along the West Broad Street corridor.”

Franklinton Restaurant Week is also a great opportunity to experience four locally-owned Franklinton restaurants.

“The last week of the year is typically slower for restaurants, and we thought that this special event would not only give people motivation to visit Franklinton, but also support our small business community,” said Trent Smith, FBOT Executive Director.
