Champion of Children has joined forces with United Way of Central Ohio.
Champion of Children has long been an important voice and educational resource emphasizing the interconnectedness of the entire educational journey, and stressing the importance of quality early learning and its impact on school success and lifelong achievement. The initiative, now in its 18th year, will join United Way's other partnerships aimed at early learning which include: Start Smart, Born Learning, and Columbus Kids: Ready, Set, Learn.
"We are so happy to welcome Champion of Children as an official member of the United Way family," said Janet E. Jackson, President and CEO of United Way of Central Ohio. "This initiative will strengthen United Way's work in education and help us ensure that more students have a successful academic career from preschool through high school graduation."
"This is such a perfect fit," said Linda Kass, Chair of Champion of Children and United Way of Central Ohio board member. "Champion of Children's community conversations and partnerships will connect the dots between United Way's initiatives and investments in early childhood education to strengthen school readiness goals and outcomes for all children in central Ohio."
Champion of Children will continue to be a self-supporting, efficient and high impact community-wide initiative. Its 2011 culminating event and taped program will be held on February 8, 2011 at COSI.
Prior to joining United Way of Central Ohio, Champion of Children originated as a community outreach initiative in 1994 at Columbus Montessori Education Center. Columbus Montessori and United Way of Central Ohio believe this transition will allow the initiative to have an even stronger voice for the children of our community.
Founded in 1923, United Way of Central Ohio is working to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks of a better life: a quality education that leads to a productive career, enough income to support a family through retirement, good health, and a safe place to live. Together, we can achieve real, lasting improvements in our community. For more information, visit www.liveunitedcentralohio.org.
