Description
For 28 years, Pater Noster House has provided transitional housing to well over 1,000 clients. Through outsourced services to the HIV community, Pater Noster House has provided meals and other services to 2,500 people living with HIV/AIDS. Pater Noster House provides temporary, short-term housing to people living with HIV/AIDS who are experiencing homelessness and is currently the only licensed adult group home in the seven counties that make up central Ohio. Many people with HIV/AIDS face difficult choices between housing, food and medication. The difficult economy compounds this situation. The ability to pay for services is never a consideration for residency at Pater Noster House. This year, Pater Noster House is one of three local agencies that will administer services under the HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People Living with AIDS) program. The organization will do so in two Columbus locations—a brand new facility on Clinton Avenue that opened at the end of 2008 and their older location on the Westside. “Those who deal with HIV/AIDS should not also have to encounter the possibility of losing their housing because of their extended inability to work or other factors, said Councilmember Charleta B. Tavares. The services offered by Pater Noster are invaluable care to an oft-stigmatized population.” For more information, visit paternosterhouse.org.
