Prepare Children To Start School and You Prepare Children To Succeed In Life

In the Columbus City School (CCS) district, nearly 40% of the children entering kindergarten required intervention because they lacked foundational skills. Children who arrive unprepared begin at a disadvantage and the achievement gap widens as the child moves through the school system.

With support from more than 30 community partners, United Way of Central Ohio is leading an effort to design school readiness screening and referral services for approximately 12,500 three- and four-year old children and families in the CCS district.  The project is designed to increase the number of children who enter CCS kindergarten classrooms ready to learn.
